Over one thousand years old, Urswick Parish church of St Mary and St Michael pre-dates the once powerful Furness Abbey, now in ruins, 5.6 km to the south west. The old section of the graveyard seen in this month's photograph is carpeted each spring with crocuses which have multiplied and spread over many years. Interspersed with clusters of snowdrops, the graveyard becomes a place of spectacular colour and great beauty.
