Reference to Mr. R. Dobson in this article is to Robert Dobson [1857 - 1934], younger brother of John Dobson. Robert was a carpenter and wheelwright in Little Urswick and of great significance to the historical record, he was one of the first, if not the first, to take up photography in the Urswick locality and was very active in this hobby. Many of his prints and glass plates have survived to the present day, as have a number of his works as a carpenter.
