Throughout all of the John Dobson paper clippings it should be noted that the references to the surnames Stable and Stables are correct. They were separate families. However, in this instance it is very likely that we are dealing with a printer's error and Stables should read Stable.
In these times all the plots of land had names and were widely known amongst the local rural community. Some field names have survived where the land has passed within succeeding generations of the same family but many of the traditional names have been lost. Some old maps with the field names annotated over the printed sheet do still exist but these are now rare.
